What is Creative Communities?
Creative Communities aims to be an accessible, responsive and useful network for people with an interest in developing the cultural life of communities across the city and county.
It is an experiment, but rooted in the principles of bottom up development.
Using the broadest definition of culture, the Creative Communities network aims to celebrate the power and potential of culture to enhance our sense of connection and belonging.

What’s the background?

Creative Communities developed from a number of very active women’s groups in the city. At first the groups, inspired by training and engagement with drama in particular, came tCreative Communities Launch 2013ogether to discuss how the cultural resources in the city could be harnessed by local groups.
The group then expanded to include representation from local community groups and the artistic community. In the lead up to City of Culture, Creative Communities launched formally and became an important “pillar”  in the planning process for Limerick City of Culture 2014. Currently, Creative Communities are involved in the community strand of L.A.C.E.- Limerick Arts and Culture Exchange movement.

Achievements:
Creative Communities was instrumental in developing the ‘Are You Dancing?’ project. The amazing outdoor event captured the imagination of the people of Limerick and for many was a highlight of 2014.
In early 2015, Creative Communities focused on devising a “Terms of Reference” document to create an accessible and focused set of operational and organisational principles from which to develop the network into the future.

We will publish this Terms of Reference document online in the coming months.
